  • Pens
  • A quiz master - if your hosting a pub quiz then this will probably be you and it's normally your duty to do the questions.
  • A score board - so after every round teams can see where they stand on the leader board.
  • Prize(s) - a prize for the winning team is a must, you could also supply a prize for the runners up!
  • Teams - you can leave these down to the participants of your quiz to choose, or if holding one for friends or family you could make the teams to mix it up e.g. boy's vs girls, oldies vs youngsters etc.
  • Drinks and food - always good to have some drink and nibbles on hand throughout your quiz, particularly if holding a fundraising event as you could charge for drinks and make some extra cash!

    Pub quizzes are often made up of a number of rounds, for each round you should try and have near enough the same amount of questions for each round though you don't have to stick to that as a rule. Here are some of the most common rounds;

  • General knowledge - probably one of the most popular rounds, this section normal consists of questions on geography, science, nature and history. Some people also put questions about sport, entertainment films and TV, and true or false questions, although a lot of people choose to have these as separate rounds.
  • Picture round - these are often pictures of famous people and teams simply have to say who they are, to make it more difficult you can alter the picture so the face isn't completely recognisable. You could even get pictures of actors in certain roles and get teams to state character they are playing in which film/TV show.
  • Musical round - there are lots you can do in a this round for example;
    --> Pop songs - you can play the start of a chart song for people to guess the artist/band and title of the song.
    --> Film soundtracks - you can play songs from films and get teams to name the film, song and even the artist/band of the song.
    --> Theme tunes - of you can get hold of them, playing theme tunes and getting teams to name the show.
  • Puzzle round - this can be a question that requires teams to complete a puzzle e.g. word search, cross word, anagram or a maths question etc.
  • Novelty round - this round will ask a number of questions that all link to the same thing for example questions which all have a link to France. Or you could do a round where the last letter of the pervious question is the first letter of the next one etc.
  • Who am I round - this round us a series of questions that all provide a clue as to the ultimate answer of whom/what the person/thing is e.g. a round of questions all linking to The Queen.

    You can also add joker and/bonus rounds to you quiz, a joker round allows your teams to pick a specialist round in which they can double or triple their points. Bonus questions can be done in a number of ways, you can either have a question that has a number of clues to it and the less amount of clues it takes for them to get the answer the more points they get, or you could have buzzers and the first team to buzz in and get the answer correct can get a double points or a on the spot prize.
